ABOUT FEMMESTIVAL

AN ALL-FEMALE MUSIC FESTIVAL WHERE ALL ARE WELCOME

FEMMESTIVAL is an all-female music festival which seeks to close the gap women often face in the live music sector, by showcasing the up-and-coming women making waves in the UK's music scene. The inaugural festival took place in October 2023, and was followed by the launch of a series of evening live music showcases, which now take place four times a year. The project was first backed in June 2023 by the National Foundation for Youth Music's NextGen Fund (Round 5). Since then, it has also been funded by PRS's Early Career Promoter Fund (Round 1), which will support four more showcases and another all-day festival across 2024 and 2025. The Early Career Promoter Fund is managed by PRS Foundation and funded by Arts Council England using Supporting Grassroots Music funding from DCMS.

AAA 30under30 – INTERVIEW WITH talia andrea, founder of femmestival

ACCESS ALL AREAS — 23/07/24

❝AAA: What aspect of your role do you find most fulfilling?TA: I’ve had artists say that FEMMESTIVAL's crowds have been the most warm and welcoming crowds they’ve ever performed to, and it means a lot to me to be able to foster that space.❞

FEMMESTIVAL: BBC Radio London

BBC RADIO LONDON — 05/06/24

❝Because I was at university when I founded FEMMESTIVAL, I was considering what kind of future I would have in the music industry, and that informed my approach into working with other young women. I thought we deserved to feel like we had a future in the music industry, and that we could work in the music industry without feeling like our gender or age was an obstacle.❞

The all-female music festival set to rock Blackhorse Lane

WALTHAM FOREST ECHO — ISSUE 103 (OCTOBER 2023)

❝FEMMESTIVAL is an acknowledgement of the gender imbalance which continues to be upheld within the music industry, and an effort to provide the opportunities for visibility, representation and career progression for female and non-binary artists, which they continue to miss out on.Secondly, it’s crucial not to take the intention of the festival out of context, or decenter it from what it is fundamentally about: this being women in the music industry. FEMMESTIVAL is not at all about excluding men — it’s about uplifting and celebrating women. It’s as straightforward as that.❞

FEMMESTIVAL: A FESTIVAL FOR ALL

WOMEN'S WRONGS ZINE — 25/09/23

❝As the festival debuts next week, it stands as a symbol for something new and a reminder that there’s a lot more that needs to be done. FEMMESTIVAL is a reaction to the tokenistic lip-service of the current state of inclusivity and equality in the music industry. It is a community in action, a manifestation of the change larger record labels and festivals need to internalise, and most importantly it is a space women can inhabit to express themselves, as they please.❞

In Conversation With Coupdekat: On Her Latest EP, Loud LDN, & Gender Equality In The Music Industry

STRAND MAGAZINE — 21/09/23

❝STRAND: How do you feel about performing at FEMMESTIVAL, an all-female festival, very soon?CDK: Super excited! [...] I think it’s refreshing and very empowering to have an all female lineup. [...] I think it’s a great idea, and it's been long-awaited. And I think it’s a great step forward in the future of the music industry.❞

NEXTGEN COMMUNITY EVENT: YOUTH MUSIC AWARDS NOMINEE TAKEOVER HIGHLIGHTS

YOUTH MUSIC — 15/09/23

❝The panellists discussed why and how we should “Take Note” of more grassroots projects and people across the country. [...] [FEMMESTIVAL’s founder] noted the current lack of mentorship within the music industry, and the need to nurture people from marginalised or less represented groups and help them to navigate it: “Being able to talk to someone, have them share their journey and have them tell me what I can do with mine is so important. I think it’s a step that as an industry we can take more”.❞

TICKETPASS - INTERVIEW WITH THE FOUNDER OF FEMMESTIVAL

TICKETPASS — 22/08/23

❝I think it would be great to see people treating the music industry as more of a community and less of a competition. It’s always nice to see when local music promoters and professionals find ways to collaborate, and this kind of cross-pollination especially thrives on a grassroots level — although there’s definitely also potential for it to work well on a larger scale.❞

TO DO LIST - INTERVIEW WITH THE FOUNDER OF FEMMESTIVAL

TO DO LIST — 22/08/23

❝[FEMMESTIVAL's] entire lineup is female[, and all] of our volunteers and photographers for this year are also female or non-binary. In the context of the BBC’s recent statistic that only 13% of festival headliners in 2022 were women, it’s an initiative which seems more necessary than ever. [...] It’s an event which has London’s local community at its heart, and it’s a celebration of the women who make up that community: whether they’re onstage, behind the scenes, or in the audience.❞

LEADING LADIES: A new festival featuring an all-female billing announced for London

TICKETPASS — 10/08/23

❝I was really excited to see the announcement of FEMMESTIVAL, as there has been a lot of big talk in recent years about addressing the gender imbalance on festival lineups and beyond. And yet, few events are truly succeeding, with all the excuses in the book being made for not taking big enough steps forward. Seeing an all-female lineup for a festival is tangible proof that it can be done. [...] Let's hope it makes a big impression on the industry.❞

All-Female Music Festival To Launch In London

ACCESS ALL AREAS — 03/08/23

❝[FEMMESTIVAL is] about having women feel like the space is designed for them, and that everyone else around them is part of the same community — and having everyone of all genders appreciate, share in, and celebrate that.❞
